| Deferred Payment Scam 101 |
Most movies don't sell. Hell, most don't even get past the second draft - but that is another story... Here at Deferred Payment Scam Central, I will explain how to get people to work their ass off for FREE - and why this is only possible here in Tinseltown. Also why I won't do it. People are so hyped up about making a film that they will generally sell you their mother's eternal soul to get it in the can. This is human nature. If you are a budding independent filmmaker you can and should use this and all manner of other lies, half truths and deception to get innocent victims to give you their time, money, cars, houses, equipment, services, whatever - for a promise that when the movie eventually sells, you will give fair reimbursement for their share. Ahem... Here are some examples of films/programs that have a good shot at getting sold or distributed. With any combination of these you MIGHT get your money after a few years of begging, pleading and lawsuits with the now defunct and disbanded production company: Porno Here are some
examples of films that have no chance in hell of getting sold, even if Cory Feldman is starring as the lead: That is a good description of about 85% of what gets passed as an INDIE that comes across my editing desk. And yes, I always get asked to work on them deferred because somebody's sister's brother's uncle went to lunch one day and saw a movie star that wants to see the finished product before he writes a check. This deception works well on actors, but not for anyone who works for a living. Then again if you desperately need stuff to build up your reel, there is no better way to learn than to fuck up somebody elses picture in the process. What do you care? It won't sell - you'll most likely get some free booze and you aren't getting paid for it anyway... Class dismissed. |
